Piscis Austrinus - Southern Fish

Known also as the Southern Fish, this constellation lies immediately south of Capricorn and Aquarius in that part of the sky earlier known as the Aratos. Oddly enough, Piscis appeared at the time best suited for the harvest of honey.

This fish is supposed to be the mother of the twin fish of the Zodiac (Pisces) because it is much brighter than its children.

Piscis Austrinus contains Fomalhaut, a bright star of the first magnitude. Fomalhaut translated from the Arabic means “Mouth of the Fish.”
